Boston bombing, one year later

It’s been a year already since two bomb blasts rocked the world at the end of the Boston Marathon.

Frontline has archived a key program dealing with terrorism and is streaming it online. “Top Secret American: 9/11 to the Boston Bombing” aired in April 2013. It is worth taking a look back at Frontline’s stellar reporting on this tragic event.

The next Boston Marathon will take place in a few days amid the strictest security possible. The city held a memorial service to take note of the tragedy that killed three people and injured dozens of others.

It didn’t take the FBI and local police long to find two suspects. They turned out to be brothers. One of them was killed in a fire fight with police. The other one was captured in nearby Watertown, Mass., after he, too, engaged in a gun battle with police.

U.S. Justice Department officials are seeking the death penalty for the suspect, a young man believed to be an Islamic extremist.

Frontline has aired a series of programs that were broadcast on Panhandle PBS. The programs are contained in the link attached to this blog post.

They walk us back through the era of heightened security that began on that terrible Tuesday morning back on Sept. 11, 2001.

Take a look at it.
